UB Remote Access

This page provides personal experiences about how to connect to UBFS from home or from off-campus location. After this configuration, you should be able to use telnet, SSh, ftp to connect to your directory in UBFS from home.

This solution has two main steps:
1. Obtain your remote access permission
2. Turn on your webpage



  • I. Activate your remote access

    • 1. Go to "University at Buffalo UNIX Remote Access Facility",
      the URL is "http://remote.buffalo.edu/"
    • 2. Enter your UBIT user name.
    • 3. Choose the number of weeks.
    • 4. Enter your IP address.
      If the web page did not detect your IP, use following commands to find your IP.
      • In Windows 9X/Me, use winipcfg
        (Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt, in C:\ command line)
      • In Windows NT/2000/XP, use ipconfig


  • II. Personal Webpage at UB.

    • 1. Go to Maintaining Your Personal Webpage. Read the instructions.
      The URL is "http://cit-helpdesk.buffalo.edu/services/faq/public_html.shtml"
    • 2. Turn ON your webpage
      • Go to UB File Space. The URL is "http://www.cit.buffalo.edu/ubfs/"
      • Click "Turn on/off home page"
      • Enter your UBIT User name and Password
      • Click "Turn Internet Access ON"
